So you have finally decided to take the leap into purchasing your first set of clubs congrats! This is the beginning of a fun and exciting hobby.

Finding your first beginner set can be a difficult task when you don’t know what to look for.

No need to feel lost anymore I once started in the exact situation as you.

I first started with a very basic set with no knowledge in golf to then being propelled from beginner to experienced player in only a few years.

But it is important that you buy the correct equipment to ensure the clubs are made for your swing.

As you make your journey you will find out what flex, type of clubs, and brands to look out for.

With this post you will learn:

✅ What type of clubs you should be looking at Driver, woods, Hybrids, irons, wedges and putter

✅ The best beginner golf sets in the market right now

✅ Where you can purchase your beginner golf set

Look for the right shaft

Depending on your swing speed you should consider looking for the correct shaft.

85 to 95 mph swing speed = Regular shaft

95 to 110 mph= Stiff

I always recommend a regular shaft starting off.

But once you develop your swing and gain a faster swing speed you should move onto a stiff shaft.

Make sure you work your way up to a stiff flex or then your will have a slice in your swing because the club will be too stiff for your swing.

A regular shaft will allow you to easy get good impact on the ball because of its flexibility.

Choosing the right golf clubs

Choosing a Driver

Your first club to take a look at the driver which is one of the most important clubs in your bag this is the club that gives you the most distance and is the one you’ll be starting off on every hole.

For beginners, I recommend a large head size this will allow you to not miss the golf ball and the club head is much more forgiving than a small head size.

The largest size you can buy is a 460cc head which I recommend.

Most drivers are 460 CC which is great for the beginner.

Choosing your woods

When you begin playing you will notice that you may have trouble hitting your irons.

If you are you may want to switch to using your woods or your hybrids.

Your fairway woods are made to be used after your second shot or when you are far away from the hole. They are much easier to hit than an iron.

Almost all woods today have graphite shafts which weigh much less than a steel shaft.

Combine that with a larger head you end up with a club that goes far with not much effort on your swing.

Many golfers carry around a 3 and 5 wood .  A 3 wood has a loft between 15 and 18 degrees, and a 5 wood has a loft between 20 and 22 degrees.

The higher the golf club number, the higher the loft.

Choosing your hybrids

In recent years hybrids have become very popular among professional and amateur golfers.

This new technology combines a fairway wood head design but a much shorter in length.

Those two factors combined creates a club that is engineered to be much easier to hit and go far.

Most golfers have replaced there 3.4.5 irons with these hybrid clubs.

If you are looking for your first beginner golf set having a minimum of 2 hybrids is a must.

You will be able to hit the ball further than some of your irons and give you more confidence on the course.

Choosing your irons

There are 2 different club heads on your irons. Each are different they all vary on your golf skill.

To the left, we have an iron called a blade/ muscle back. This is what the pros use. It is a much harder club to hit and I don’t recommend it to beginners. This club has almost no forgiveness and you must have a near flawless swing if you want to hit a good ball. If you start with this club you are guaranteed to shank your shots from the get go. Avoid this if you are a beginner

To the right we have a cavity back irons this is perfect for the beginner golfer because the club head is larger and oversized and it will allow you to get the ball in the air. Notice how much room it has in the back that is considered the cavity back this club is much more forgiving and it will help develop your swing. This is the type of iron you need to get started.

Choosing your putter

There are two styles of putter  mallet and blade choosing the right one for you is all dependent on your personal choice.

Just make sure you buy the correct length the average length of 35 inches  for the typical golfer.

It is important to get a feel for putter to know if it right for you.

Choosing your wedges

Now for your wedges. This is what you use around the greens and from about a hundred yards.

What to Look out for when buying wedges is the Loft and you want to look for a sandwich which is labeled with an S a 54-degree wedge works or a 60-degree wedge that allows you to get the ball and land softly on the green.

Remember the higher the Loft on the wedge the higher the ball will go up in the air.

Choosing a Brand

Their serval good brands to start off with I would go after the cheap ones since they are not expensive and have right requirements for a beginner. Callaway, Nike, Ping, Wilson,Top-flite,Cobra, Tour edge.

All of these brands are well known and inexpensive for your first set.

There is no need to spend thousands on your first beginner set. Within 1 year if you consistently golf you will out grow them and move onto more advanced golf clubs.

But for now look into complete sets that offer the full package. Driver, irons, wedges, and putter.
